Red Raised Circle Moles on Torso and Back

A WOMAN who sent her husband to the doctor after circling around concerning moles on his body with a pen was amused with the response.

The dermatologist sent the man home with notes written next to each mole, revealing if they were "good" or needed testing.

Doting wife Brinlee Miles shared her story on TikTok and received thousands of comments praising her attention to detail and care for her partner.

Dozens of dermatologists said wives often send their hubbies in with circles drawn on their bodies.

In the video, Brinlee starts off by saying "this is how I sent my husband to the dermatologist", while showing the dozens of moles circled on his torso.

She then filmed him walking home through the door captioning, "and this is how she sent him back lol".

Brinlee's husband was holding a doctor's note and, when he took his shirt off, had gotten notes written beside each mole.

Most had "good" written next to them but a couple had been biopsied with the note "took a test".

A biopsy is a small surgical procedure where a part of tissue is taken to be studied closely for signs of cancer.

It's used to look for skin cancer when moles have changed or there is a new lump or discoloured patch.

Brinlee said in the video, dated November 30, that the results would take up to 10 days to come back.

The Utah-based wife was admired for her keen eye that was able to recognise changes to her husband's skin.

One TikTok user commented: "I work in Derm and you'd be surprised how many women send their husbands covered in circles."

Another dermatologist said it happened "at least twice a week", while one commented that after working in dermatology for more than 15 years, she'd never seen a wife come in with circles drawn on her.

Amused viewers wrote: "I swear this is why married men live longer."

The most common symptom of melanoma - the rarer but more serious type of skin cancer - is a change in an existing mole, or the appearance of a new one.

The most commonly affected areas are the back in men and the legs in women, the NHS says.

The earlier melanoma is spotted the easier it can be treated.

So it's important to be aware of your moles and what they look like (and your partner's!).

As for non-melanoma, the more common type of skin cancer, the first sign is usually a red/pink and firm lump or scaly patch on the skin that persists after a few weeks and slowly progresses over months or sometimes years.

All types of skin cancer are usually a result of too much exposure to UV rays from the sun, with pale and freckly people at high risk of diagnosis.

The ABCDE checklist to see if you need to see a doctor about skin cancer

We all have moles and are aware that changes to them could signal something serious.

If you are unsure whether you need to see a doctor or not you can use the ABCDE checklist to help you tell the difference between a normal mole and a possible cancerous one.

  • A - asymmetry - the two halves of the area may differ in shape or colour
  • B - border - the edges of the area may be irregular or blurred, and sometimes show notches
  • C - colour - this may be uneven. Several different shades of black, brown and pink may be seen
  • D - diameter - most melanomas are at least 6mm in diameter. Report any change in size, shape or diameter to your doctor
  • E - evolution – if you see progressive changes in size, shape or colour over weeks or a few months, you must seek expert help
